How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test as there are several pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero Ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. 3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor.
